	York Fibbers Gets a New Lease of Life Just as Franz Ferdinand announced, and sold out in 9 minutes flat, an intimate show at the venue (yes that’s the Franz Ferdinand), thing are definitely looking up for this legendary York live music venue. 60K investment on improved facilities: Specific developments include a new PA System, new lighting and AV, refurbished dressing rooms and toilets. In addition to these changes we are working in partnership with Ticketmaster to set up a full box office service which will not only sell for shows at Fibbers but for shows across the UK. We are pleased to announce our relationship with new York based promoters CRS events. David Laing Operations Manager for Mama says ‘when we came to look at a new solution for the in-house promotional function at Fibbers everyone told us to check out CRS and the work they were doing around York. We are really pleased to be working with them and we have already seen, in the short time they have been working with us, that they are able to revitalise our booking policy and strengthen the link with other local promoters and artists’. Reinvigorating the venue includes the appointment of a new General Manager, John Hullet, who was formerly at the Carling Academy Oxford and Newcastle. John comes with a proven track record in developing close relationships with the local community and live music scene. We are sure that John will continue this good work in York. Across the MAMA Group estate Club Nights have given venues a much needed shot in the arm and Fibbers will also develop its programme to meet the demand and potential that a diverse programme can deliver. We will proactively seek local partners to work with on creating a successful series of late night events that will appeal to younger people and give the venue a new lease of life. 2 new clubs will be appearing at the venue in the very near future. Fridays will be club Yo-Yo already rated as one of the UK’s best club nights by NME. Saturday will be Distortion, an alternative night, featuring the best local DJ’s and Live artists in a fresh departure for the York club scene. Sixteen years after opening, 2008 marks the beginning of a new phase for Fibbers. Clair Chamberlain The Duchess, York New venue for York, the Duchess, has had it’s opening delayed due to licencing and other considerations.
